The Reba and Walter Viner Humanitarian Award was established by the Viner Family in 1999 in memory of their parents who were leaders in the Jewish Community. It reflects the high ideals, community concern and human dignity that they embodied during their lifetime.
The award is designed to recognize and honor groups who are committed to humanitarian pursuits in behalf of the people of San Antonio.
Non-profit agencies are encouraged to nominate their own agencies for the award. Organizations, regardless of religion or national origin of their membership, are eligible for consideration.
In order to increase the possibility of success for award applicants, the Viner family decided in 2005 to select annually a stated area of concentration.
The 2009 award went to a non-profit that helped reduce domestic violence in the San Antonio area. The winner received a cash award of $10,000 and was recognized at the Foundation for Jewish Philanthropies annual meeting.
The Reba and Walter Viner Humanitarian Award applications are administered by the Community Relations Council (CRC) of the Jewish Federation of San Antonio. The application and guidelines are available through links on this page or by calling the CRC at 302-6960.
