History

S.A. GIVEBACK was founded to respond to the growing number of today's wounded soldiers recovering in San Antonio.  The first dinner was held on the grounds of the Fisher House in September 2004. The program provides soldiers and their families with gifts and necessities,  organizes special dinners, and helps to ease the stay of visiting military family members.  S.A. GIVEBACK works in cooperation with Fort Sam Houston's Wounded Warrior and Family Support Center.

Sponsorship and Organization

Sponsors of S.A. GIVEBACK include the following:
*The Emily Fund of the Foundation for Jewish Philanthropies
*The Jewish Federation of San Antonio
*Texas Resources for Iraq-Afghanistan Deployment (TRIAD) of the San Antonio Area Foundation
*Numerous citizens and restaurants in San Antonio

S.A. GIVEBACK is organized by The Community Relations Council of  the Jewish Federation of San Antonio and sponsored by The Emily Fund of the Foundation for Jewish Philanthropies. The Emily Fund was started in honor of 5 year old Emily who asked that her friends and family donate VHS machines to a local children's home rather than buy gifts to her.  Emily's spirit of frank compassion and obligation to community helped stir others to action, eventually inspiring the Community Relations Council of the Jewish Federation of San Antonio to create the Emily Fund as a vehicle to give back to the service men and women who have contributed so much to our community. The program is also sponsored by the Jewish Federation of San Antonio.
