The play tells the true story of Anthony “Tony” Acevedo, a Mexican American Army medic imprisoned at Berga, a forced-labor subcamp of Buchenwald, who secretly documented what he witnessed. His diary is preserved by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, where he is recorded as the first Mexican American in its Registry of Holocaust Survivors. For San Antonio and South Texas, his story brings the history of the Holocaust closer to home.
